Web Hosting
Web hosting includes:
- Drupal and WordPress websites. No new Drupal or WordPress websites are permitted in AFS as of June 1, 2024. U-M Pantheon, as well as other alternatives, are available for new Drupal and WordPress websites.
- Static Personal, Class, and Group websites.
- Web Applications (non-Drupal/WordPress websites).
Classes & Groups
Group AFS directories are used as a shared work space; as a means of publishing on the Web; or for some other purpose for departments, units, or student organizations. Also, faculty members can have an AFS class directory for a class that they teach.
Future Phase: Users/Home Directories
Your personal AFS storage space is your "home directory."
Next Steps
- Drupal/WordPress:
- Can start moving now to the ITS U-M Pantheon service.
- Web applications (non-Drupal/WordPress websites in Group and Class volumes):
- A new solution is being developed and is expected to be available in the coming months.
- General alternatives – Google Sites, GitHub Pages, Canvas, ITS Container Service, external providers.
- Static Websites:
- A new ITS service to replace static Personal, Class, and Group websites in AFS will be available in May 2026.
- All websites will be automatically moved when the new solution is available. No intervention needed by the customer or Unit IT.
