ITS U-M Net (ITS-UMNet) maintains a comprehensive and robust outside plant fiber optic network throughout the University of Michigan campus. Fiber connectivity is available to cellular carriers for backhaul purposes, significantly reducing the build-out costs of new exterior cellular nodes.
Internal Partnership
U-M Net partners with a variety of campus organizations on university cellular enhancements including:
- Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC)
U-M Net partners with AEC to ensure cellular vendors adhere to university requirements and fit within the aesthetics requirements of university buildings. - Athletics
U-M Net partners with Athletics for exterior and interior coverage enhancements to our major athletics venues. - DPSS
U-M Net partners with DPSS to advocate for the importance of interior cellular coverage in new construction for the purpose of life safety communications. - Facilities & Operations
U-M Net partners with F&O to ensure that our cellular installations adhere to university requirements and pass electrical, heating & cooling, fire, occupational safety, and other inspections. - Health Information Technology & Services (HITS)
U-M Net partners with HITS for cellular enhancements on the Michigan Medicine campus and buildings. - Office of the General Counsel
U-M Net partners with OGC to ensure our cellular agreements provide the university consistent and appropriate legal protections. - Procurement
U-M Net partners with University Procurement to maintain cellular provider relationships and obtain signatures for contractual agreements. - Unit Facilities & IT Staff
U-M Net partners with unit facilities and IT professionals to ensure smooth interior and exterior cellular installations within on or top of university facilities.
