Remote Consultant

The ITS Remote Consulting team is looking for team members for remote work opportunities. The Remote Consulting team is a customer facing, highly dynamic front line support team responsible for remotely providing user support. Reliable, solution-oriented student staff will excel in this role. Although training will be provided, candidates should be prepared for a continual learning experience and be comfortable partnering with users to solve problems. A successful candidate will be customer focused, self-motivated, friendly, dependable and comfortable working in a changing environment. The Remote Consulting team partners closely with many teams across ITS, so being a professional, proactive communicator that is receptive to feedback is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Remotely assist faculty, staff and students with account related issues
  • Troubleshoot problems to the best of your ability; refer unresolved problems as appropriate
  • Maintain a strong presence on Slack and other communication tools, responding to requests in a timely manner
  • Professional communication across all facets of the position including in tickets, on chat, and supporting customers in person
  • Foster a productive and positive environment by providing feedback and ideas for improvement
  • Conduct ticket lifecycle quality assurance

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a student of the University of Michigan
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and development
  • Basic familiarity with Macintosh and PC hardware and software
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others as a team and independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical information (verbal and written) and interact effectively with users and technical staff
  • Experience in customer support/service role; must be friendly, outgoing, and approachable
  • Enjoy the challenge of continued learning and working in a constantly changing environment

Additional Remote Work Requirements

  • Consistent access to a reliable, modern Windows or Mac computer
  • Access to a quiet, private work environment where you would be able to take calls and focus on work with minimal disruption
  • Access to reliable, high speed internet
  • Initial training and onboarding is in-person; after training and initial shifts, work can be done on campus or fully remote

Work Hours

8 a.m.–5 p.m Monday—Friday

Hourly Rate

$15.00 per hour
