U-M Zoom Rooms as Digital Signs

The large Zoom Room displays offer a prime opportunity to customize content and deliver visual communication while meetings are not in session. The ITS Digital Signage service can be used to remotely maintain and deploy departmental and broad U-M messaging.

ITS Digital Signage provides an easy to use template for a plug-n-play experience. Zoom Room customers can seamlessly integrate their own images with university-wide community content. The template also provides getting started instructions to ensure new users of Zoom Rooms continue to have a hassle-free experience (see example below).

Zoom Room customers use ITS provided storage and a simple Google Sheet to add the content to their rooms. The content runs on the existing Zoom Room Hardware, it does not require an additional media player. There is no additional learning of the digital signage platform required.

To activate this feature on your Zoom Room displays, simply fill out the Zoom Rooms request form. Please include the location(s) of the Zoom Rooms. There is an annual service fee of $250 for each unique instance of content. If the same content will be used on multiple Zoom Room displays, there is no additional charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

I already have a digital sign, can I just put the same content on the Zoom Room?

Currently, we only support the use of image files input into the ITS-Zoom Room provided application. We are continuing to test the possibility of direct implementation of custom signage templates on Zoom Rooms hardware.

If I’m not a digital signage customer already how do I get started?

Fill out the Zoom Rooms request form and indicate your interest in adding digital signage to your Zoom Room. We will create the network storage location and Google sheet for you. We will reach out to you to go over the process and answer any questions that you may have.

How do I update the images on my sign?

To add a new image to the sign you need to move a .png or .jpg file type into the ITS provided network storage drive. Once the file is there, you will update your Google Sheet with the name and file type. After that is completed the image will automatically be added to the rotation on your screen.

Can I get rid of the Zoom Room template and use the full screen for my content?

The footer that provides getting started instructions for individuals new to Zoom Rooms is important for consistency and ease of use. We do not support the removal of this footer.

I have multiple Zoom Rooms, does it cost $250 per year per room?

If you use the same content across multiple displays, it is only one annual payment of $250. If you want different Zoom Rooms to display different content then yes, it would be $250 per set of content.

Do I need to purchase any more equipment to run digital signage on my Zoom Room?

No, you do not need to purchase a PC or a media player in order to run digital signage content on your Zoom Room.
