U-M Net WiFi Device Compatibility Guide

The Device Compatibility Guide provides information about which electronic devices can be connected to U-M Net and information about how to connect them. If devices have detailed instructions for setup, links are also provided below. Whichever device you connect, protect your privacy and sensitive personal and university information by following the best practices in Secure Your Internet of Things Devices.

The chart below provides a list of common devices, whether they are supported on university networks, setup instructions/links, and which wireless network they will rely upon going forward once configured on university networks.

The wireless compatibility guide is meant to show what devices have been tested on WiFi—not necessarily the preferred connection method for a specific device. ITS is always testing new devices and adding them to this page. Devices not listed on this page are not supported. To request manual setup for devices which require it, Ann Arbor users should contact the ITS Service Center at 734-764-HELP (4357), and Dearborn users should contact the Dearborn ITS Service Desk at 313-593-4357 or [email protected].

For Housing Networks Only: While many devices may be able to connect to WiFi, ITS suggests using wired connections whenever possible. An ethernet (wired) connection will still offer the best functionality for gaming systems, smart TV's, etc. If you need to register a device for use on the wired network, please visit U-M Network Registration. (You will be asked to first agree to the Network Responsible Use Agreement, and then you'll be taken to an online form to register your device.)
